Herbal Hair Growth Wash | ACV & Aloe •
Hair is sacred medicine. It is the extension of ourselves, our ancestors and our nervous systems. We must nourish our hair just as we nourish the rest our mind & body.
The Brew: I’m so happy to finally restock this beloved hair ally, this time with a new improved formula and DOUBLE the size! Offered in an 8 oz BPA-free, PET black squirt bottles, which is the only material safe to sell for shower use. And it is completely waterproof!
This ally is what I use in place of traditional shampoo. I use the Roots of Sif and Odin as my "leave in conditioner"
This herbal hair wash is a rich, nourishing blend of hair-specific allies. They are known for their innate abilities to help strengthen, thicken and encourage hair growth as well as heal & hydrate the scalp. Many of these herbs are known as DHT blockers, which is a hormone that if overproduced can be detrimental to hair follicles.
These herbs may also help reduce frizz, increase circulation & cell regeneration while enhancing the hairs natural shine & reducing dandruff. The aromatics of the allies used balances out the scent of ACV, making this wash smell quite divine.
🔻The sulfates, chemicals & binders in traditional S&C strip our scalp of its natural oils, damaging our hair. The chemicals can also leach into our brain, potentially harming health & the process of making them harms the environment. Keep in mind if you are making the switch away from traditional S&C your hair may go through a sort of detox phase and that is totally normal.
By using a natural, pH balancing formula such as this wash, you're on your way to restoring your scalps natural ability to produce its own sebum (oils) which is necessary for strong, healthy hair.
Wherever you’re at, I hope this ACV and Aloe wash helps support you & your hair journey. See "Wise Folk Way" below for 2 options on how to use this wash.
PNW Wildcrafted & Organic Ingredients: Stinging Nettle leaf & root, Horsetail, Saw Palmetto, Rosemary, Lavender, Fenugreek, Marshmallow root & Hibiscus infused in raw Apple Cider Vinegar & Aloe Vera.
🌿 Apple Cider Vinegar is half the base of this hair wash, and is a wonderful hair tonic in their ability to restore the scalps natural oils & pH while increasing blood circulation to the hair follicles. ACV helps close the numerous cuticle scales which cover & protect the surface of the hair shaft, making hair smoother so it reflects more light which increases shine. The natural anti-bacterial & anti-fungal properties of ACV helps combat scalp infections & reduces dandruff. She’s anti-inflammatory, helping to clarify & exfoliate the scalp, removing dead skin as well as pore-blocking buildup. The herbs infused in this portion are mineral and silica based, which ACV is excellent at pulling minerals and silica out of plants.
🌿 Aloe Vera ~ Aloe makes up the other half of the base. The gel and juices of this deeply nourishing plant promotes healthy hair growth thanks to a special enzyme found in Aloe called proteolytic enzymes. These enzymes are thought to effectively break down dead skin cells on the scalp that may clog hair follicles. It also stimulates dormant hair follicles which in turn stimulates growth. Aloe vera also contains vitamins A, C, and E, all of whom contribute to cell turnover, promoting healthy cell growth and shiny hair.
🌿 Stinging Nettle Leaf & Root - Stinging Nettle Root is known as one of the top hair and bone allies. Nettle can specifically help block DHT - a hormone that if overproduced can be detrimental to hair follicles. Studies reveal that nettle extract may help block the production of DHT by reducing the production of the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme. Nettle is packed with a plethora of vitamins and minerals, giving this ally the unique ability to help combat hair loss while also aiding in hair regrowth. Nettle leaves are also rich in silica, iron and sulphur which play an important role healthy, strong hair. The flavonoids and phenols in Nettles work as a powerful antioxidant, helping rid free radicals and healing damaged hair strands, roots and follicle.
🌿 Horsetail ~ Horsetail is thought of as a deeply wise ally, being a prehistoric plant, it’s referred to as a “living fossil” dating back over 400 million years ago. Being such an ancient plant, they’re used in virtually every culture. As a Saturn-ruling plant, they conjure fire power, energetically bringing you prehistoric healing, wisdom and transformation of ancestors and Earth. Horsetail has the keen ability to really pull up all the minerals and energy from deep in the Earth, making them extremely nourishing and nutritive-dense. Horsetail is a mineral rich ally specifically in their high levels of silica ~ coming from the Earth’s Crust. This makes them amazing medicine for helping hair grow faster and stronger while helping reduce dandruff. They are known to restore antioxidants and help improve blood circulation. This helps restore and rebuild thinning hair, leading to healthier hair follicles. I harvested the horsetail I used in this hair wash fresh along the Oregon Coast, so they're filled with the deep nourishing ancient minerals of both Sea and Earth. Furthermore, Vinegar is known for it’s ability to pull out minerals from plants, enhancing their nourishing properties.
🌿 Saw Palmetto - Saw palmetto is a very potent ally often used to balance hormone levels and combat hair loss. According to one study, saw palmetto (similar to nettle root) may help block the activity of 5-alpha reductase, an enzyme that converts testosterone into another sex hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT) that is linked to hair loss. Saw palmetto may also prevent hair loss by reducing the uptake of DHT in your hair follicles, which decreases DHT’s ability to bind to specific hormone receptors. Studies have also shown that Saw Palmetto may help increase hair density in 83% of people with hair loss. It can also help repair hair texture and shine.
🌿 Rosemary ~ Amongst her many affinities, she's known for her hair-specific properties. She is anti-inflammatory with an ability to increase blood circulation which stimulates the hair follicle. She also improves cell regeneration, allowing new hair growth while reducing hair loss. Her antibacterial qualities gently cleanses the hair, relieving the scalp from dry, flaky dandruff and irritation. She loves to leave the scalp feeling hydrated and makes hair soft and shiny.
🌿 Marshmallow Root ~ This ally is deeply soothing , emollient and mucilaginous (has a “slippery” feel to it) which can nourish and detangle. It is also wonderful for conditioning dry scalp and hair, preventing breakage and restoring heat-damage. It may help prevent irritation caused by dry skin and scalp. The mucilaginous qualities of Marshmallow root make this ally pull and hold moisture. It’s also been shown to aid in the production of stem cells, giving it the potential to promote healthy hair growth.
🌿 Fenugreek Seeds ~ Fenugreek is an Ayurvedic seed that’s been used as a hair ally for centuries. The seeds are high in protein and nicotnic acid, which is known to help prevent a variety of hair conditions such as thinning, dandruff and dryness. This ally is deeply nourishing & hydrating which helps ease dry, itchy scalp. It’s also thought to help strengthen the roots and hair follicles.
🌿 Lavender ~ We all know the smell of this lady alone is so healing, making your hair washing experience luxurious and calming. Her sooting nature also reduces the stress hormone that often results in hair loss. She is also an amazing hair ally. She is extremely antimicrobial, allowing her to help prevent dandruff, inflammation, bacteria and fungi related to buildup on the scalp and relieving itch and irritation. She brings moisture to the scalp, helping stimulate hair growth and increases cell regeneration.
🌿 Hibiscus ~ this stunning ally does an amazing job at combating premature hair loss and fall out. She is rich in vitamins and amino acids, improving blood circulation and stimulating the scalp which increases hair growth. She helps strengthen hair elasticity resulting in less breakage which encourages hair to grow longer, fuller. Hibiscus is a stunning red color which at the amount added should not dye light hair, though it's important to note hibiscus is often utilized to encourage a red tint. You can use this wash straight but I do recommend diluting with water if your hair is light or if you're not used to straight ACV on your scalp (see option 2 below)
Wise Folk Way: You can use this wash directly on your scalp, or as I prefer it, you can add water and rinse over your hair, allowing it to sit on your hair for at least 5 minutes. You only need a little bit so this bottle goes a long way.
I personally wash my hair only once a week. I use 1 tbsp - 1 oz of the wash in about 4 cups of water and pour it over my head, letting sit for at least 5 minutes. I adjust ratio depending on my moon cycle and the season. I have thick hip length hair and I find this ratio works wonderful for me.
🌿 Option 1: Apply directly: (Ideal for dark haired and short haired folks)
-
Wet Hair
-
Shake up
-
Apply just a few squirts directly to the scalp, using your fingers to work it down into the hair.
-
Let sit on your hair for at least 5 minutes, then rinse out
(Due to the hibiscus this option is used with caution for light haired folks - option 2 is recommended)
🌿 Option 2: Make the “wash” (My preferred method - great for light haired and longer haired folks)
-
Wet Hair
-
Shake up
-
Squirt out .5-1oz of wash into a jar/container about the size of a quart
-
Add water (3-4 cups) Adjust these ratios to your length & hair response
-
Stick ends into the dilution and dump the rest over your head
-
Let sit on your hair for at least 5 minutes, then rinse out
